  • Are digital smart locks secure?
Yes, McGrath Smart Locks use advanced encryption and secure authentication methods, including PIN codes, RFID, and biometric access. Regular firmware updates and app-based controls help ensure ongoing protection and security.
  • What happens if the power or Wi-Fi goes out?
McGrath Locks run on batteries, so a power outage won’t affect normal operation. If Wi-Fi goes down, you’ll lose remote access but can still unlock the door using PINs, cards, fingerprints (depending on the model) and the included mechanical override keys locally.
  • I want to connect my McGrath Lock to a Gateway.
First thing to do is make sure your gateway is connected to power (USB cable). The Gateway uses the 2.4GHz frequency. Most routers use this (as well as 5GHz) but worth checking. Make sure the Gateway is within communication distance of the McGrath Lock and the router.
  • Can I grant access to others?
Absolutely. Through the TTLock App, you can share access with others via eKeys, temporary PIN codes, or RFID cards—great for guests, family, or staff.
  • How long do McGrath Lock batteries last?
A McGrath Lock will usually get around 12 months of use. This will vary depending on the battery type (we recommend using quality trusted brand batteries) and frequency of use of the McGrath Lock.
  • How do I open my McGrath Lock if the batteries run out.
The McGrath Locks will alert a battery low warning on both the TTLock App and via the McGrath Lock when the battery voltage dips below 4.8Volts. Usually, you can open the door about 200 times after this low battery warning starts (you should change your batteries straight away) however if the batteries die you can still access the McGrath Lock via the mechanical key.
  • How do I update my McGrath Lock firmware?
Go to the TTLock App and then select the lock you want to update. Go to the ‘Settings’ option and find the ‘Firmware Update’ option. If there is an update available it will show and you simply click on the ‘Update’ button.
  • What’s the best way to add my fingerprint on a McGrath Lock?
When enrolling fingerprints the TTLock App will request you move your finger around – this is great to ensure that the sensor will read your fingerprint regardless of the angle you present your finger. Its also a great tip to enrol multiple fingerprints (and on opposite hands) as you may have items in your arms and need to use another finger to open the door.
  • Can the programming setup for one lock be transferred to another?
Yes indeed there is a simple way to transfer all your data and save you lots of time! First go to your existing McGrath Lock and go to settings. Then “Upload Data”. Then go to your new McGrath Lock and go to settings. Then “Import From Another Lock”. This may take a little while depending on how much data there is. *Just note here that if you have a lock with fingerprint option unfortunately the fingerprints cannot be copied from one lock to another.
  • I want to set the McGrath Lock to ‘Always Open' Mode.
This is a common request, especially when users don’t use the app. After you input a valid code or card press 123 #. The McGrath Lock will be accessible by just turning the handle (no code, PIN, card or fingerprint needed). If you want to reset the McGrath Lock back to its ‘usual’ mode, simply press the ‘#’ key.
  • If 'Passage Mode' is set to a time period will it activate even if I'm not there?
No need to worry. For a McGrath Lock to enter 'Passage Mode' it first needs to see a valid user access (App user, Card, PIN, Fingerprint). Also a handy tip, if you need to leave and lock the door, simply press the ‘#’ button and the door will go to the ‘locked’ state. When you get back and unlock the McGrath Lock it will revert to it’s timed automatically open.
